The Importance of Re-Keying Your Home

Opening A New Business? 2 Tips To Keep Your Building Secure

If you are planning to open a new business, besides working on advertising to gain more customers you also have to think about security. The last thing you want to happen is for a burglar to break in and steal and damage your things. To prevent this from happening below are two tips you should find helpful.

Use a Card Key System

Allowing your employees or anyone else to simply walk into your building any time they please is dangerous for both you and your employees. Instead of this, you should use a card key system. This system requires each employee to carry a card that they would have to swipe to allow them entry into your building. These systems use a computer program that controls who can and cannot come through the door or access other areas of your building. In most cases, these systems have a log of who uses a card to access your building, as well as where the card is used and at what time.

Most systems allow you to preprogram when your doors lock each night. Some systems can also detect if a door is propped open. For example, someone may leave the door propped open so another person can gain access inside your building without using a key access card.

If you have an employee that quits, you will not have to worry about changing your locks or re-keying. Instead, with this type of system you can erase their privileges electronically, which means their card would not be usable.

You can choose to have blank cards or you can have your company name and/or logo printed on the cards. One thing to consider is if one of your employees loses their card and it has the company name and/or logo on it, someone that finds it may try to use the card to gain access to your building.

Use Security Cameras

For added security you can also use security cameras on your property. You can place the cameras in spots that are easy to see or hide them completely. If you place them in a visible area, this could deter someone from breaking into your building. You do have to consider some criminals may try to damage or disable the camera to allow them to gain access. A hidden camera will not scare a criminal away but you would not have to worry about them damaging the cameras.

You can choose wireless or wired security cameras. Wired systems are harder to install and some wires may show which can take away from the aesthetics of your building. Wired systems do give you a picture that is of higher quality, however, and they are more secure.

Wireless security cameras are much easier to install but consider that the broadcast can be interrupted from anything that runs on a wireless signal nearby, such as smartphones. There is also a chance that someone could intercept your video feeds. If you would like to use a wireless security camera, make sure you the manufacturer encrypts their wireless system to make them more secure.

These two tips should make you feel much more secure knowing you, your employees, and the contents inside your building are safe. Contact a security company, like Arapahoe County Security Center Inc, for more help.
